Teaching at Daystar Academy

Daystar Academy is a Christ-centered International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in the South Loop of Chicago serving students from Preschool through High School.

We are a community committed to education that is both academically strong and deeply human, grounded in faith, shaped by inquiry, and lived out in the city and the world.

We often say the city and the world are our classroom at Daystar. Our students learn not only through rigorous academics, but through real experiences — engaging neighborhoods, institutions, and communities across Chicago and beyond. Our classrooms are places of curiosity, challenge, and connection, where students are invited to wrestle with ideas, collaborate with others, and see how their learning connects beyond the classroom.

Our community reflects the richness and diversity of Chicago. Students and families come from a wide range of cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and Christian backgrounds. We see this diversity not as a challenge to manage, but as a gift to embrace — an opportunity to practice unity in the body of Christ while learning to engage differences with humility and respect.

Teaching at Daystar is meaningful and deeply relational work. It requires educators who are not only strong in their craft, but who are also willing to invest in students as whole people — intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Our teachers help students learn to notice the places in the world that need care and restoration and to consider how their knowledge and gifts might be used to serve others.

Daystar is located in the heart of Chicago, where students learn in a setting shaped by both opportunity and challenge. Our community operates within the realities of city life — cost, space, and a highly competitive educational landscape. The city offers extraordinary access to institutions, communities, and lived experiences. It also makes visible the inequities and complexities that shape people’s lives.

We engage both.

This work requires resilience, thoughtful stewardship, and deep care for students. It also creates the opportunity to form young people who can recognize the beauty and brokenness of the world and respond with wisdom, compassion, and hope.

Daystar’s mission is to empower students to impact the world through a faith-based, culturally-engaged, globally-minded education. Our vision is to see lives transformed and, through them, to see Chicago and the world more fully reflect the kingdom of God.
