Falcon Flex Recap

Daystar Academy

This year marked the first full year of Falcon Flex Days at Daystar Academy, a new initiative that gives middle and high school students a dedicated day each week to explore electives, try new things, and have a little fun along the way.

Every Wednesday, students stepped into a different kind of schedule, one filled with creativity, movement, and choice. Through partnerships with organizations like the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and the South Chicago Dance Theatre, students participated in drumline, orchestra, and dance. Others joined Running Club (with stops like the Christkindlmarket for hot cocoa), Baking Club, Model Car Mechanics, Drama, Art Therapy, Film Fans, Financial Planning, and more.

These experiences offered more than just fun. They gave students space to build confidence, collaborate across grade levels, and develop new passions outside of core academics. In a world that often emphasizes rigor alone, Falcon Flex reminds us that joy and curiosity are essential parts of a meaningful education.

“At its core, Falcon Flex is about honoring student agency,” said Tosha Jackson, Head of Schools. “It gives students the freedom to explore who they are and who they’re becoming.”

As a school rooted in the belief that every child is uniquely created by God, this initiative aligns beautifully with our mission. We’re proud of what this first full year has accomplished, and even more excited about where it’s going next. As we listen to student feedback, welcome new community partners, and dream together about what’s possible, we hope to continue expanding the offerings and impact of Falcon Flex Days.
