God With Us: The Light of Advent

Daystar Academy

In December, the Daystar community gathered at the Merle Reskin Theatre for God With Us: The Light of Advent, our all-school Christmas program. Designed as a shared act of worship, the evening brought together students, families, and friends to celebrate the season through story, music, movement, and reflection.

From PreK through high school, students across every grade level took part, each contributing their gifts to the larger story. The program showcased the growing strength and diversity of Daystar’s arts offerings, including Middle School Choir, Drumline, Beginner and Advanced Orchestra, Middle School Dance, and Middle and High School Theatre, many performing on a professional stage for the first time. Together, these programs reflected years of intentional investment in the arts and a belief that creativity is an essential part of how students learn, express, and worship.

From the beginning, the goal of the evening was never perfection. It was about giving students a stage worthy of their hard work and carving out sacred space for our community to gather and remember a central truth of Advent: God is with us. Through scripture, original liturgy, and performance, students told the story of Emmanuel with honesty, imagination, and hope.

One refrain echoed throughout the night: light is never meant to be hidden. Like the shepherds keeping watch in the dark, our students reminded us that when Light breaks in, it is meant to be carried, shared, and lived. That message—rooted in faith and lived out through creativity and community—is at the heart of Daystar’s mission and continues to shape how we teach, learn, and grow together.
